This was a gift for our teenaged grandson. We had it shipped to him. He is very pleased with it.

Help answer the question about Tuner Metronome
What could cause interference with my tv tuner card?
I have a analog tv tuner card for my PC but the channels come in fuzzy at best. I Tuner Metronome am using an amplified antenna and don't have cable(nor do I want it). I do have it on a desk with a desktop stereo system, cordless telephone, monitor, and printer. I also have another tv nearby using rabbit ears. Could something be interfering with the reception?

This is lightweight, accurate, has a good tuner and metronome…Everything you can ask for the price. I use two of them, so I don’t have to carry one from my office and home.

One of the most annoying things when using the TU-80 as a metronome is the way you have to select the tempo. You’d assume this would be the number one function on a metronome, but no, you have to push the “select” button three times before you can change the tempo: the first click selects the rythm, the second one the meter, and then, finally, the third one selects the tempo function. Then you need to push the up/down buttons to change it. Why all this hassle when all I want is a simple click per beat?

What a difference with the ‘large round knob’ variety… where you simply turn the knob to change the BPM.

A second, minor gripe is that you can’t switch off the ‘in-tune beep’; while it is often a handy thing to have, sometimes it’s annoying.

And indeed, the tuner has a hard time when there’s background noise. I feel like a grumpy old man when I need to ask the members of the band to be quiet because I want to tune my bass. Every time again…

Since it bills itself as a tuner AND metronome, I can’t fault it completely. I can’t hear the metronome if I’m playing (which is when I’d need the metronome in the first place). I find the tuner to be quite accurate, but my amp, my effects processor, and two of my guitars have built-in tuners, it just takes up space for me. I’m giving it to my daughter because she doesn’t have a tuner of her own.
Tuner – pass
Metronome – FAIL

I was very disappointed in this tuner. Even alone in a room with no other noise, it is hard to tune my instrument. I have to pluck the string several times before it will even register, whether it is in tune or not.Boss TU-80C Chromatic Tuner & Metronome

This is a great tool for music! I bought it for my grandson when his trumpet teacher recommended it to help with both tone and rhythm. He uses it all the time. He loves it!

Wonderful appliance. Can’t teach without it and it has so many uses. The alternating higher and lower frequency pitches for individual counts are probably the most helpful with my students since then they can hear the key beats (being higher). I recommend to anyone who needs a metronome & tuner.

This is good metronome AND tuner. We are using it both with guitar and piano. Works well for both. Good value for the money!

Misko July 25, 2010 at 2:17 am

Works well since I got it. I didn’t change battery for more than 6 months.

I’m a professional guitarist. I mostly teach guitar lessons, but also play solo gigs for weddings, parties, bars, coffee shops. I haven’t had to do any other work since 2001 (it’s late 2009 as of this writing). As a guitarist, I play acoustic, electric, and classical. I need to play Metallica, I play Metallica. Elliot Smith, I play Elliot Smith. Bach, I play Bach. Versatility has always been my thing. I wouldn’t have even mentioned that, but this tuner has been taken down more notches by other reviewers than I think it should have been. It is the best tuner/metronome that you can find under $[...]. Period. I don’t even know of other tuner/metronomes over that price range, b/c these days, they’re all under [...] I have used the $[...] strobe tuner (not also a metronome) that’s out there, and it’s way better than that. A lot of the poorer ratings are from trombone players. I don’t have anything to say to them or the other horn players that are looking for something to help them improve their intonation. Maybe this product isn’t for them. I don’t know. If you are a guitarist, however, acoustic, electric, or classical, I recommend it as highly as I can. It’s a sensitive and convincing tuner, and it’s a loud metronome. It is, in fact, the loudest metronome I’ve ever experienced that is also a tuner. There are stand-alone metronomes out there that are louder than this one, but they aren’t also tuners. It’s really great, because it will subdivide beats for you if that’s what you need. By “subdividing beats”, I mean, if you want the metronome to kick out dotted eighths followed by a sixteenth, it’ll do it, and it’s not hard to figure out how. If you have trouble with that, take a lesson with a music teacher of any instrument, and s/he’ll be able to sort you out. To give you a short list of similar products that I believe it’s better than, it’s better than the Boss TU80, and the Korg TM 40 (though for that one, the volume of the metronome is the deciding factor). In short, if you’re a guitarist or a bassist looking for a pocket-sized tuner or metronome that you won’t feel like upgrading from in the next 5 years or so, pick this one. It’ll set you back about [...]

I’ve used a number of combination tuner/metronomes and this one is the simplest and most convenient I’ve come across. The tuner works great, even with some background noise. The metronome has all the basic features you need in a clear and quick to use package. I’ve also used Boss TU-80 (too many buttons to press to do simple things) and a Korg TM40 (the Start/Stop button thing is a neat idea at first, but really that’s what the power button should be on=start off=stop). The Boss & Korg both work fine, but the Sabine MT9000 does the best job at doing what I need with a minimum of buttons and fuss.

Brand new in box beautiful condition, fast ship, great price. Would recommend this product and company. Very smooth transaction. A must have for band students.

Bought this recently because the music store guy said it was the best selling unit in his store with repeat customers. He looked online and was suprised to see the amazon rating. I looked at other sites and with about 50 reviews this unit came out higher than most competitors.
It is plastice but looking at it and a korg I felt construction wise that the unit was much more solid. At first I could not get the metronome to work. Go a couple beats and shut off. I was going to return it and get another but decided to replace the batteries. Worked fine with new batteries.
While my daughter was playing the tuner seemed to work well.
I’ve read many reviews over time and I have to wonder how durable people believe a $30 piece of plastice should be. If you break this unit carrying it around then most likely you just don’t take care of your stuff.
I bought this unit because several it was rated a 4+ with many users having multiple units. Seems to be right in line with what I’ve found to be the case.

I bought this after seeing my boys’ violin teacher using it during one of their lessons. Our first metronome was Seiko SQ50, but its max sound was easily drown out by my boys’ violin and piano playing. Then when I first heard how significantly louder this was during one of my boys’ violin lessons, I immediately ordered it.

This turns out to be the perfect metronome/tuner for my boys’ both violin and piano practices. It not only tunes their violin perfectly each and every time, but it is loud enough that it doesn’t get drown out by their playing instruments. Yet, it is small enough to be carried around inside a violin case or in your pocket. Some folks might not appreciate the fact that the source of the sound is on the metronome’s back side and not the front. However, the sound is big and clear enough that it makes no difference for us. If we want the loudest sound possible, then we just turn it around.

It comes with a pull out stand, so it can be self-standing on any flat surfaces. The fact that it also functions as a temperature meter (in both farenheit and celcius) and a hygrometer is an absolute plus, as any serious musicians would need to monitor their environment in both the temperature and humidity levels for the safe keeping of their instruments. With this multi-functioning perfect unit, I don’t think I’ll ever be looking for another.

By the way, it’s also a very handsome looking unit — an additional plus! I’d highly recommend this product.

I owned this tuner previously and it was stolen. Needless to say I am more than pleased with it. It is an automatic chromatic tuner, a pitch generator, a metronome with various beats, a thermometer, and a hygrometer so that I know when to worry about the impact of environment on my instrument. It is accurate, easy to use, and has all the features that I need. If it gets stolen again, I’ll buy another one.

Hoffmann July 28, 2010 at 2:32 pm

I’ve used this metronome for several years and it has all the functions that I need. It is easy to use and tempi and tuning drones can be easily changed between with the wheel. I only have two criticisms:

The speaker is on the back, so when on the stand, I just turn it around so the back faces me, but having the speaker on the front would be better.

I have never seen one of these that accurately give the humidity. Not a big drawback, as I have other monitors for this, but I wouldn’t rely on this product for humidity (all the ones I’ve seen are stuck on 26-28%, and I’ve left mine outside on some humid days in Michigan to see if there is any change). The temperature seems accurate.

Highly recommended product, especially if you get some rechargeable 9v batteries to go with it!

I am a flute player, and must say that this is one of the best metronome/tuners for the money EVER made. The metronome’s sound can get EXTREMELY loud, and is very useful when going into the upper octaves, especially when slurred. The tuner is really great, and covers just about the whole range of the flute, but unfortunately, doesn’t really register very much of the piccolo, however, it can turn out a sound for every pitch for every instrument which can improve your overall aural skills. The hygrometer is especially great if you have a wooden instrument. Just go into a room, turn the metronome or tuner on then off, and the thermometer (which can read in Centigrade or Fahrenheit) and hygrometer stay on the screen. The hygrometer and thermometer will reset, and check them to see if its just right. This way, you know if its safe to leave your instrument (one of your largest investments) in that room or not. Overall, I recommend this metronome/tuner/thermometer/hygrometer to EVERYONE. I am seeing more and more instrumentalists with this model, and it is not only a ‘mainly string thing’. :)
Happy shopping, I hope this helps with your decision!

Galhouse July 29, 2010 at 1:58 pm

The Metronome is easy to use and has options I haven’t even tried yet. It is well worth the money.

Dyer July 30, 2010 at 2:06 am

Great for simple use. It has a visual of the metronome on the screen so that is good. You can change the pitch of the sound, and I think you can also keep specific bpm in the memory. This product was recommended to me.

Jacinto July 30, 2010 at 1:55 pm

The Korg metronome MA-30 works well. Really like that you can make it silent and just be able to watch it digitally as you practice. My daughter is using it for piano, clarinet and violin. What I don’t like is that its made very cheap for the price! Light weight plastic designed in Japan, made in Vietnam. Is anything made in our country?

Nipper July 31, 2010 at 2:27 am

Korg has packed a lot of nice features into a small package, but as soon as I put in the batteries and turned it on, my entire family (including me) laughed and said “we have to return it.” The little high-pitched beeps it makes are ridiculous — a high tone for the interior beats and an even higher tone for the downbeats. They sound almost EXACTLY like the beeps in the German “da da da” song that a Volkswagen TV commercial made famous. You can hear it here: [...]

I can’t imagine playing a serious piano piece with that thing chirping away. Someone must make a digital metronome with a better sound, but we’re probably going to play it safe and order a mechanical one.
